It is important to run an antivirus product on a regular basis. It provides your computer with protection and if configured properly, can update itself once per day and run a complete scan once per week. It is always a good practice to check the scan logs to make sure it is performing a complete system scan each time. If you are running Windows 10 the built-in Anti-Virus is a much better option than any of the free alternatives, because it will not bug you about buying their other products or displaying ads on your computer. If you have purchased a paid version of any brand Anti-Virus, be sure to check when it expires. All too often we see systems with an expired product and that can leave your system vulnerable to infections. If you are not sure what is a good product to have on your system, give us a call today at 570-283-8215, and we can talk about all the options available.
Be Smart surfing the web
You are the best protection for your computer. It only takes one wrong click to cause a major problem for your computer. Be cautious about what emails you click on, or what links you click whether online or viewing an email. Scammers continue to find new ways to get you to open an attachment, click on a link, or visit an infected website. If you hover your mouse over the link, you will see the web address for that link. if the link appears to have nothing to do with the company that sent it to you, do not click it. Nothing in life is free and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You are ultimately the key to getting or not getting a virus/malware or being scammed.
We recommend Malwarebytes
Malwarebytes Premium is a great tool for most people looking to get great simple protection for their computer. When we get a computer in the shop loaded with malware, Malwarebytes is the best program to clean up that system, all other programs fail to detect it, or if they find something they do not remove the malware properly.
How to use Malwarebytes.
Open the MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Program.
1. Click the SCAN BUTTON in the lower center of the program.
The Program with first run the update feature and then scan the computer. Occasionally, it may update to the latest version of the program and walk you through installing the newest version of the program and re-open when the update is completed.
The scan will begin and may take several hours.
3. Finished Scanning
When the scan is finished you will either see a Threat Scan summary or a list of items detected. Click Done if nothing was found.
4. Items Detected.
If you see a list of items detected, Select All items, then click the QUARANTINE SELECTED. This will begin to remove the items. Once completed you can close the program, but if it asks you to reboot then select reboot to restart your computer.
